Our group came up with a batch of ideas, but the desk vacuum utilized the most manufacturing processes while being unique from our competitors.

CREATION
This design was based on the idea of a deodorant stick. Where a cap can be placed to "close" it. A cap over the vacuum would hide the dust and debris held and provide uniformity to the typical shapes of vacuum cleaners.

HOW TO DESIGN FOR INDUSTRY
Autodesk held an event at the Rochester Institute of Technology for students to design a product for their 2024 Autodesk University conference. They came looking for a “tech-y” device to show off what their machining partners can produce.

SPECIFIED
MANUFACTURING
We designed the vacuums parts to be created by Autodesk's sponsors to showcase their machining processes. We wanted the dust cup to be injection molded by Xometry an industrial parts marketplace. The transparent lids are to be 3D printed by Formlabs a 3D printer developer. The main housing piece would be manufactured using Haans' machining center.
